Mick Birney (R Tech. Jan-72 to Mar-76) A & E Troop

I took the queens shilling on the 16th April 1963 and on the 30th of April went to AAS Harrogate where I met my wife of 46 years we have 2 children and 4 grandchildren all residing in Cumbria where I returned after my service.

I joined 14 Signal Regt in January 1972 after a year unaccompanied tour so someone in records/postings has a sense of humour giving me a 'home posting' needless to say 1973 saw me in Belize for six months as well as all the usual comings and goings.

I am aware looking back that the Regt was quite unique and always on standby for something. I played a lot of sport there and we had a decent football team as I recall. Someone sent me my old football shirt when the Regt moved and I still have it. I left for Cyprus in March 1976 and retired in April 1987 having plodded along as a staffy tech for my last 9 years.
